Dr. Kevin B. Bennett is a Full Professor in the WSU Department of Psychology and Co-Director of the Joint Cognitive Systems Laboratory. Dr. Bennett's specialization is in human factors (sometimes also referred to as ergonomics). This discipline seeks to improve the quality of today’s workplace through design. The historical focus of this field has been on designing tools that are compatible with the physical characteristics of workers. However, recent developments in computer technology have forced a new focus: the design of tools that are compatible with the cognitive characteristics of workers. Effective design solutions in today's world requires an interdisciplinary framework that considers work domains, humans, and machines. One such approach has been referred to as Cognitive Systems Engineering. Dr. Bennett's research and teaching activities on Ecological Display and Interface Design are at the cutting edge of this work.
