PSYCHOLOGY AND YOU

  • Are you interested in how people and animals learn? Do you want to help people? Do you want to know how people think? Why they act like they do? What makes a good leader? Do people work better in groups? Are men and women different?
  • Do you want to hang out in labs and learn about psychological research? Do you want to get to know professors and graduate students? Do you want to present your research at conferences or get your research published?
  • Do you want to join Psych Club or belong to Psi Chi, the National Psychology Honor Society?

If any of the questions above seem interesting to you, psychology as a major is something to consider.

Or…

  • Do you want to be a psychologist?

Many students pick psychology as a major because they are interested in becoming a psychologist. But what exactly is a psychologist? Yes, a psychologist is a therapist, a psychiatrist, or a counselor, but a psychologist is also a research scientist, a college professor, a complex systems designer, a forensic specialist, or a human resource expert. And this is only a small sample of a long list of what a psychology major can do.

Choosing your major is a big decision! We encourage you to find out as much as possible about the exciting and rewarding field of Psychology. Start by visiting the American Psychological Association website at www.apa.org, or websites listed in Resources & Related Links.

Please contact the PUP office (937-775-4155) if you have any questions or would like to schedule an advising appointment.
